贵州省地处北纬24°30′~29°13′,是云贵高原中西起103°31′E,东延至109°30′E的高原东侧的梯级大斜坡,隆起在四川盆地和广西丘陵之间。地势东低西高,南北低,中部高,平均海拔在1,000米左右。省的西部大部分为海拔2,200米以上起伏较大的山原,由此向北、东、南倾斜,河流也分别向三方流去。中部为起伏较小的黔中丘陵高原,海拔为800~1,300米左右,是贵州高原的主体,成为长江与珠江水系的分水
