影片改编自同名小说《荆棘鸟》,讲述的是早期澳洲内陆开发时期,一个新西兰移民家庭,一位虔诚的神职人员拉尔夫与清纯的梅吉之间的爱情故事。然而神父这个特殊的身份让两人无法结合。面对宗教与爱情这两个灵魂信仰的挣扎,起初拉尔夫选择抛弃爱情,追求他梦寐以求的红衣主教这个神圣的职位。心灰意冷的梅吉转嫁他人。最终却在命运和内心的渴望刺激下,两人终于再次相遇,带来的却是无可抵御的悲剧。世界上任何东西都有与之相生相克的对立一面,比如水与火、灵与肉。那么宗教与爱情似乎也是遵循这种自然的二元对立定律来进行角逐的呢?本文在故事情节的分析上采用电影本体心理学的分析方法,在镜头的分析上采用接受美学的分析方法探讨影片的美感所在和隐藏在人后的黑暗的压抑成为导火索的关键所在。
