Of all the toys I have, there are only a few that are a permanent[永久的] fixture on my display shelf.
Danboard is one of them.
Danboard (or Danbo for short) is nothing new, though. It started off as a cardboard box[
disguise[伪装] of Miura Hayasaka from Kiyohiko
Azuma’s manga, Yotsuba&!. Its cute look immediately
conquered the fans of the series, but this little robot
didn’t gain much fame until Kaiyodo released its
Revoltech Danboard line注 in 2007 – or, more
precisely, thanks to a 17-year-old photographer named Arielle Nadel and her project, “365 Days of Danboard,”
which finished in March. Fans marveled[大为惊奇]
at the story and feelings depicted[描述] in her pictures. Later, Danboard owners around the world posted their photos online. The robot – in all kinds of poses – can now be seen in a fast food restaurant, on a sunny beach, or in front of the famous Eiffel Tower!
Low-tech and plain as it is, the movable-joint[关节], light-up-eye Danboard somehow reminds us of long-lost innocence, and how beauty and joy can be found in the simplest things.

Q: How did you come up with the idea of making the “365 Days of Danboard”?
A: I was inspired by other 365 toy-series on Flickr. And when I ordered my Danboard, I knew I wanted to do a project on it.
Q: How do you manage to make every picture of Danboard different and creative?
A: For my Danboard pictures, I try to make Danboard look alive. I try to avoid just putting Danboard with an object and calling it a picture. I always want to bring emotion and character to my pictures. Occasionally I have an idea in my mind, but mostly I just make use of what I have.
Q: What do you think is the hardest part in the whole
process? And the most interesting part?
A: The hardest part is getting Danboard in the right position and making my photos look like I caught Danboard in action.
The most interesting part is working with one expression. I love the challenge of having this simple, blank face, and knowing it can be transformed into something more.
Q: Great composition[构图] and nice use of light – do you have any tips on photography skills?
A: Always be happy with your photograph. Never base it on the viewer, and be proud that you took that photo.
