Austin’s refutation of sensory material theory is a typical example of his use of linguistic inquiry to examine traditional philosophical arguments. In his opinion, the problem of traditional consciousness, which is whether we perceive material things or perceived sense of material ?, seems plausible, and the theory of sensory materials based on the argument of illusion contains a great deal of confusion and various hidden motivation. Ayer’s argument includes many verbal misuses or abuses and many false generalizations of perceptual facts. The real motivation is to conceptualize or unrealize the real world. Austin’s refutation of sensory material theory is not only of negative meaning. In refuting the theory of sensory material, Austin also put forward positive opinions in terms of perceived objects, ways of perception, descriptions of sensations, and the nature of experience. His view at least corrected the framework and direction of our thinking about perceptions.
