Objective To investigate the changes of serum electrolytes in neonates with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) and its clinical significance. Methods Totally 74 neonates with HIE and 40 neonates were tested for electrolytes by the same instrument. Results There was a significant difference in serum levels of Na +, Cl- and Ca2 + between neonates with HIE and control neonates (P <0.01), and mild to moderate HIE (P <0.01) . Conclusions Serum electrolyte imbalance in neonates with HIE is more common. Serum Na +, Cl- and Ca2 + are helpful to analyze the condition and evaluate the severity of the disease, and can guide the treatment.
