On April 1, 2002, the Tyler Prize Committee established at the University of Southern California announced that it awarded the 2002 Tyler Environmental Achievement Award to Academician Liu Dongsheng, Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor Wallace S. Broecker, University of Columbia. The Tyler Environmental Science Achievement Award, the highest award in the field of environmental science in the world, is called “Nobel Prize in Environmental Science” by the academic circles.
