Prejudice for hypnosis is caused by many reasons. First of all, hypnosis itself has a long and mysterious course of development has affected people’s understanding of hypnosis. As ancient as thousands of years ago, ancient Egyptians had already treated patients in temples. They have similar treatment to modern hypnotherapy. Specifically, it is through a ritual (drumming, dancing, or incantation) that narrows the patient’s consciousness and implies that the illness will heal. This primitive treatment inevitably gives the impression of a “strange” and “witchcraft,” so that hypnosis falls “unscientific” reputation.
