Objective To investigate the effect of perinatal diseases on thyroid function in very low birth weight infants. Methods Serum levels of triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), thyroid stimulating hormone (TTPH) and thyroid stimulating hormone in very low birth weight infants of 27 infants with perinatal disease and 22 infants with very low birth weight infants without perinatal disease TSH) level. Results Serum levels of T3, T4, and TSH in very low birth weight infants with perinatal diseases were significantly lower than those in very low birth weight infants without perinatal diseases (all P <0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Perinatal disease leads to a further decline in thyroid secretion in very low birth weight infants
