建构主义学习理论是当前国际主流学习理论。该理论认为,理想的学习环境应当包括情境、协作、会话和意义建构四个要素。由于多媒体网络教学系统所提供的学习环境与建构主义理论所主张的学习环境一致,建构主义学习理论特别是其学习环境观成为深化教学改革、进行多媒体网络教学的理论基础。在我国,大学翻译教学也在逐步推广使用多媒体网络技术。在大学翻译多媒体网络教学中,教师应发挥指导作用,创设真实的翻译教学情境,组织学生开展翻译协作学习,成为学生建构意义的帮助者和促进者;学生要发挥主体作用,成为翻译学习信息的加工主体和意义的主动建构者,习得翻译知识和翻译技能。
