Phosphate glass is a suitable laser host and is essential for the fabrication of compact waveguide laser devices and other vital applications,such as glass-tometal seals and bio-compatible materials,because it has a low glass transition temperature,low optical dispersion and high thermal expansion coefficients.[1-3]This type of glass shows great potential and can be used as a bio-material due to the fact that its chemical composition can be easily adjusted to be close to that of natural bone.The introduction of silver inside the glass matrix can reduce the danger of microbial contamination through the potential antimicrobial activity of the leaching Ag+ ions.However,one drawback of this glass is that it is hygroscopic,and the OH-group,which acts like high-energy phonons,can severely affect the quantum efficiency of the emitting rare-earth (RE) ions.
