Julian Barnes is one of the most famous contemporary writers in the UK, famous for Ian McEwan and Martin Amis and the most influential writer in the UK. As a writer under the tide of postmodernism, Barnes’s work also shows the concern about the predicament of the post-modern life. Through a Lacanian interpretation of the narrator in “Flaubert’s Parrot,” this article explores unconsciously the loss of the subject of Jeffrey Braithwaite, the narrator in the imaginary and symbolic world, Excavating the Philosophical Ideas in Barnes’ Works and Their Humane Care to the Post-modern People.
