中国绘画的现代化是整个社会顺应历史潮流的体现之一,是中国传统在新的历史条件下的继承和再创。中国绘画现代化孕育于中国近代的文化现代化,即新文化运动。在新文化运动浪潮的推动下,有识之士纷纷提出各种改革传统绘画的方案,有传统中求变的创新论,有固守传统的国粹说,有“调和”改造的革新论。在这些论争中,“中西调和”论便是最富于建设性和创新性的一种理论,最有代表性的人物要数林风眠、徐悲鸿、刘海粟等人。
The modernization of Chinese painting is one of the manifestations of the entire society conforming to the historical trend and the inheritance and re-creation of the Chinese tradition under the new historical conditions. The modernization of Chinese painting has given birth to the modern culture in China, that is, the New Culture Movement. Driven by the tide of the New Culture Movement, people of insight have put forward various proposals for the reform of traditional painting. They have the innovation theory of seeking change in the tradition and the innovation theory of “reconciling and transforming” with the traditional quintessence of tradition. In these debates, the theory of “reconciliation between China and the West” is the most constructive and innovative theory. The most representative figures are Lin Fengmian, Xu Beihong, Liu Haisu and others.
