Objective To investigate the relationship between angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) gene polymorphism and primary focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). Methods Polymerase chain reaction was used to detect ACE gene polymorphism in 31 FSGS patients and 116 healthy controls. Results There was no significant difference in the frequency of ACE genotypes between FSGS patients and control subjects. There was significant difference in the frequencies of DD genotype among FSGS renal insufficiency patients, FSGS renal dysfunction patients and control subjects. Conclusion The polymorphism of ACE gene has no significant effect on the incidence of FSGS in Chinese. DD gene is a susceptible factor of renal failure in FSGS.
