彭长江教授在２０００年《外国语》第５期上所发表的《翻译标准多，何以判是非》一文，表达了一种以科学主义为指导的翻译研究思想。本文认为翻译研究属于人文和社会科学，应摆脱科学主义的束缚。在这两种不同性质的学科领域，客观性问题是很不相同的。在人文和社会科学中，不可能有所谓的客观标准。从解释学的角度来看，语言的意义也具有不确定性，而且由于翻译目的与材料的不同，也会产生不同的衡量译文的标准。翻译标准只能是多元的，而不可能是一元的。
Professor Peng Changjiang’s translation of the standard published in the fifth issue of “Foreign Language” in 2000, “Why do you decide the right and wrong,” expresses a translation-oriented research philosophy guided by scientism. This paper argues that translation studies belong to the humanities and social sciences and should be free from the shackles of scientism. Objectivity issues are very different in these two different disciplines. In the humanities and social sciences there can be no so-called objective criteria. From the perspective of hermeneutics, the meaning of language is also uncertain. And because of the purpose of translation and the different materials, different standards of translation will be produced. Translation standards can only be pluralistic, but can not be monistic.
