【Abstract】As the globalism of economy has developed and her entry into WTO, China has frequently communicated with western countries. Journalistic English Plays a significant part in our daily life. A great deal of information is transmitted by news medias. As the begin of a news report, headlines is a essential part of news reporting and play a significant role in news reporting. Thus we should place special he emphasis on the characteristics and translation of news headlines.

Chapter 1
News reading and scanning, which have become a wide must for a large number of people, is widely considered as a way to enjoy their right, learn the ever-changing English language and widen their scope of knowledge. The reason is that journalistic English is emergent and significant when people want to promote their communication. With the increasing deepening of the opening policy and gradual deepening of economy, with China has entry into WTO, with the emergency of the global village, we are more and more eager to recognize the world than they were ever before.
Chapter2 Features of English News Headlines Language
Features of English News Headlines Language is significant for us to study, which is organized by culture feature, stylistic feature, grammatical feature and so on.
(1)Cultural Feature Language is the main communication of culture. Cultural types are reflected as follows:First, a very few English news headlines origins from English idioms or allusions. Such as, For many in cinema, all roads led to Wilder( Jin 2003 ).
(2)Stylistics feature. As it is well known, we should further discuss the stylistic features for the deep study of English news headlines as follows. The author concludes these features mainly on some aspects.
2.1 Definition of Stylistics. When we want to make clear the definitions of stylistics, we should go over “what is style” as these two concepts are realized, therefore, In a word, language feature varies in conditions, such as, the different people, at different times or positions, for in different cultural backgrounds or different purposes.
2.2 Stylistic Features on Lexical Level. When we have learned Stylistic feature, we have known English news headlines need to be brief and humorous and, which as the results explain the lexical preference. Here the author summarizes several different styles of news headlines on lexical level. As we can realize on the Internet, English news headlines select to use short words instead of long or difficult ones at the moment. 2.3 Linguist features of News Headlines. Grammatical Features of Headlines English news headlines contain a wide range, such as military, politics, economy, culture, technology, medicine etc. Therefore, to some extent, to realize the purpose of highlighting quickly the ideas of a piece of news in limited times or position, headlines not only choose words for their clear, brevity and dramatic quality but also apply very condensed structures which have been described as “headlines”(Zhang 2).
2.4 Tense. Though it may be not complete in one sentence it is supposed to tell the whole information. An useful way to abbreviate a headline is to use verbs in their present tense instead of past tense. Most headlines don’t demand accuracy on lenses and present tense is usually used for indicating past time, future time and present perfect For example:
(1) A. a. 13 Die as crowded Van Crosses M4 b. Jeweler Is Slain
B. Schools Ask Parents for Money Toward Books
(2)“And” is sometimes replaced by comma, such as:
a. Thailand, Malaysia Ink Sea Treaty = Thailand (and) Malaysia Ink (a) Sea Treaty
b. Woman Kills Husband, Self = (A) Woman Kills (Her) Husband (and) (Her) Self
2.5 Lexical Features of News Headlines Lexical feature, to some extent, is called “diction” in literary criticism. In terms of traditional morphology, word structure is direct discussible:root, prefix, and suffix.
Active Verbs The writers of headline have developed a vocabulary that finishes the requirements of the headline, using words that are short, attention-getting and effective.
Chapter 3 Conclusion
To sum up, though the translation of news reporting is very valuable, it is really a hard task to complete the all works .It also needs special translation principles and methods because English news headlines are quite different from English of other feature. News reporting usually applies a structure that puts the most important messages at the very beginning, that is, in the headline. The language is very accurate, concise, brief and humorous. In order to appeal to the readers’ interests, the author applies some literary devices in it. The criteria, principles, strategies and methods are requirements to news headline translation in practical translation on the basis of the general translation theories.
