Objective To investigate the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor C (VEGF-C) and PTEN in the development of oral squamous cell carcinoma OSCC and its relationship with lymph node metastasis. Methods Elivison immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expression of VEGF-C and PTEN in 60 cases of OSCC, 15 cases of dysplasia and 15 cases of normal oral mucosa. Results The positive rates of VEGF-C and PTEN protein expression in OSCC were 62% and 73%, respectively. With the increase of tumor malignancy, the expression of VEGF-C increased and the expression of PTEN decreased. There was a negative correlation between the two (P<0.05). The expression of VEGF-C and PTEN protein was related to tumor differentiation, clinical stage and lymph node metastasis (P<0.05). Conclusion VEGF-C and PTEN play an important role in the occurrence and development of OSCC, and the combined detection of them can provide effective evidence for the malignancy and prognosis of OSCC.
