Swing times is a temporary fixture for the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority Urban Renewal Program “D on the Lawn.” Swing times combine both function and beauty, highlighting the ways in which energy is used and played, as well as energy production and consumption. The city playground consists of 18 spin-cast polypropylene swing suspended under a special solar roof. The swing time uses an independent power supply system, which consumes solar energy collected by a series of photovoltaic cells, which at the same time convert ultraviolet light into electronic lighting. The playground responds to the environment in real time and illuminates the solar energy collected daily.
