操作型定义是一个科学名词,跟它相对的是概念型定义。概念型的定义,例如:燃烧,是物体发生剧烈的氧化,并且产生光和热的化学反应。可是什么是“氧化”?什么是“化学反应”?这些都是概念性的名词,如果不懂得这些概念,读者还是不懂得什么是“燃烧”。如果以操作型的方式来定义:燃烧,就是滑亮一根火柴,放在油纸上,点亮今天晚上的篝火晚会。这就有动作、有画面,显得具体容易了解了。操作型定义,应用在写作上,就是可以把抽象的写成具体,把不可理解的,写成可以操作演示的方式,就会让句子把作者要表达的意思生动地表演出来。
Operational definition is a scientific term, as opposed to the conceptual definition. Conceptual definitions, such as: Combustion, is a violent oxidation of an object and produces a chemical reaction of light and heat. But what is “oxidation”? What is “chemical reaction?” These are conceptual terms, if you do not understand these concepts, the reader still do not know what is “burning.” If you define it in an operational manner: Burning, you slip a match, put it on a piece of paper, and light a bonfire tonight. This is the action, a picture, it seems easy to understand. Operational definition, used in writing, is to write abstractions into concrete forms and write incomprehensible forms to manipulate presentations, so that the sentences will vividly perform the meanings of the authors.
