Mao Dun’s novels have always insisted on his literary concept of “being a human being”, the new women in his early novels, and the clothes in sexy exposures, boldly and enthusiastically displaying their enchanting bodies. In their works, they are not only the objects that satisfy the desire of men but also bear the social responsibility and obligation conferred by the authors, which in turn sets Mao Dun’s complicated gender imagination about the modern Chinese women.
