Middle-moving sentences and simple passive sentences (omitting the affair) all contain an implicit affair. The research shows that the understanding of implicit acts in the moving verb depends on the cognitive system, and it is still controversial whether the understanding of the implicit acts of the simple passive sentences depends on the linguistic or cognitive systems. Through two experiments, this paper explores the understanding mechanism of different levels of Chinese EFL learners of the implicit actions of middle-moving sentences and simple passive sentences formed by familiar verbs and new verbs. The results show that there are two sources for the understanding of the implicit acts of simple passive sentences: verbal representations and structural origins, and there is no difference in understanding patterns of implicit incidents between simple and passive sentences at high and low levels in Chinese EFL learners. Conclusion is consistent with the usage-based linguistic theory and cognitive grammar.
