马克思在《1857—1858年经济学手稿》里面将生产的消费分为主体的和客体的双重消费,主体的消费包括两个方面,即个人在生产过程中发展自己的能力与在生产行为中支出、消耗这种能力。这里的人并不是一般意义上的个人,而是作为社会生产关系之下的个人,具有认识论和存在论意义上的两个维度。在存在论意义上,它将生产实践与人的发展互相统一起来。所以,在生产视域下来看待人的发展以及在人的发展视域下来研究主体的消费问题,对于发展消费文化和促进人的发展是一个启发,从而具有了时代的意义。
