Jakob’s Street Life Theory Validation in Seoul - The Physical Environment and Street Walk New Cityism stems from criticism and self-reflection on the large-scale single-use land use and car-based modes of travel in North America. It is largely influenced by the writings of Jacob, the death and birth of big cities in the United States. Jacob believes that in order to ensure vitality in big cities, urban development should be gradual and small-scale, with voluntary remolding by inhabitants rather than mass rebuilding driven by big capitalists. Highways and large-scale urban development projects will lead to the disappearance of urban street walks. The diversity of physical spaces at the microscopic scale can encourage the generation of walking activities, while walking at the streets or at the district level is an important source of urban vitality.
