文学选集既能体现某一民族或国家的文学成就,也能推动文学经典与文学传统的形成,因此,美国黑人学者尝试以编辑、出版黑人文学选集的形式,证明黑人的文学才能与天赋,修正所谓黑人民族“低劣的”负面形象,为“黑人研究”等提供教材,当下最具影响力的黑人文学选集当推哈佛大学盖茨教授主编的《诺顿非裔美国文学选集》(1996)。进入21世纪,波士顿大学英语系主任吉恩·贾勒特教授主编出版了《韦利-布莱克韦尔非裔美国文学选集》(2014),从新的视角反思种族问题,反思文选与文学经典及文学传统之间的关系。在本次访谈中,贾勒特教授比较全面地对比分析了这部选集的新颖与独到之处。
