八十年代中期以来,马来西亚经济取得巨大成就:1988~1993年国内生产总值平均增长9%左右,发展速度居东盟之首,在亚洲仅次于中国;人均产值从1986年的1830美元增至1993年的3280美元,在东盟国家仅次于文莱和新加坡,是泰国的近2倍和印尼的5倍左右;制造业占国内生产总值的比例从1987年开始超过农业,1993年升至30%以上;制成品占出口总额的比例于1989首次超过初级产品,1993年升至70%左右;商品出口从1987年的138亿美元增至1993年的468亿美元,已跻身于“全球25大出口国”之列;外汇储备从1986年的60亿美元增至1992年的194亿美元,同期外债则从219亿美元减至159亿美元。
Since the mid-1980s, the Malaysian economy has made tremendous achievements. From 1988 to 1993, its GDP grew at an average rate of 9%. Its growth rate ranks first in ASEAN and second only to China in Asia. Its per capita output increased from 1,830 U.S. dollars in 1986 $ 3,280 in 1993, second only to Brunei and Singapore in the ASEAN countries, nearly twice that in Thailand and about 5 times in Indonesia; the share of manufacturing in GDP surpassed that of agriculture in 1987 and rose to 1993 Over 30%; the proportion of finished products in total exports surpassed that of primary products for the first time in 1989 and rose to about 70% in 1993; the export of merchandise increased from 13.8 billion U.S. dollars in 1987 to 46.8 billion U.S. dollars in 1993, 25 largest exporters "; foreign exchange reserves increased from 6 billion U.S. dollars in 1986 to 19.4 billion U.S. dollars in 1992, while foreign debt was reduced from 21.9 billion U.S. dollars to 15.9 billion U.S. dollars.
