As the world changes faster and faster, the risks that companies face in pursuing their foundations are growing. From a macroeconomic point of view, the World Economic Forum recently released the 2012 Global Risks Report, warning that the world will face the risk of further economic shocks and social unrest. However, after the hurricane surges in recent years, China’s economy has accumulated many problems. The disparity in income distribution is too large, the ecological environment is deteriorating, and the economic structure needs to be adjusted urgently. All this will bring challenges to the development of enterprises. Because of this, risk management becomes more and more important, and risk management theory is also developing day by day. However, there are many types of risks. For example, bank risk management focuses on financial risks; hospitals focus on medical accident risks and legal risks; manufacturing companies may be concerned about product or environmental responsibilities; and the primary risk for utility companies is disruption. There is no simple formula to deal with different, unpredictable risks. However, by systematically looking at how the risk is spread across the entire value chain, including competitors, suppliers, distribution channels, and customers, managers are able to anticipate and prepare for risk more successfully. In this issue, we try to introduce the awareness of risk management in the business community and the quality community, paying particular attention to the control of quality risk, trying to inspire enterprises through some case studies and theoretical discussions.
