The powders used in the powder metallurgy industry contain components with significantly different particle sizes and densities, with a strong segregation tendency during transport. To achieve consistent accuracy and optimum performance for part producers, it is crucial to reduce or eliminate this segregation. Treating the premix with various binders generally improves the performance of the premix. Laboratory studies were conducted with a variety of binder / lubricant systems to evaluate results involving segregation, flowability and pressability. Outlines the developments in improving fluidity, increasing green density and green strength, and their impact on overall productivity and performance.
