In late October 1988, at the invitation of the Hong Kong Chinese Culture Promotion Center, the Chinese Uygur “Mukam” art troupe composed of the State Ethnic Affairs Commission participated in the “Twelfth Asian Art Festival” organized by the Hong Kong Municipal Council. This is the first time for our ethnic minority arts and cultural groups to participate in the Asian Arts Festival. It is also the time after Mukam came to the International Traditional Music Festival in London in 1987 and once again boarded the international stage. Muqam is the mother of Uyghur music.
