Color is nature’s best gift for all human beings. In painting, color is an indispensable element. No matter what kind of style, the painting uses the color as the first connection point, which resonates the emotion of the painter and the audience. In western oil painting, color is the most intuitive expression element. Whether it is the real reduction of the natural color in the early realistic parties or the abstract party’s understanding of the color alternative, the root causes come from the subjective changes of human thought and the objective world friction. Therefore, the study of color in Western oil paintings needs to be traced back to the change of color in different periods and the characteristics of each period.
