The increased concern for the security of the oil supply and the negative impact of fossil fuels on the environment has put pressure on society to find renewable fuel alternatives[1]. In recent years, growing attention has been devoted to the conversion of biomass into fuel ethanol, considedred the cleanest liquid fuel alternative to fossil fuels[2]. As feedstock for fuel ethanol, sweet sorghum [Sorghum bicolor(L.)Moench] is a C4 plant charactered by a high photosynthetic efficiency and a high biomass- and sugar- yielding crop[3]. The main aim of this study was to evaluate a early maturity mutant, KFJT-1, induced by carbon ions irradiation in term of internodal parameters under field trail condition to provide the basic data in order to further mutation mechanism research.
