Objective To understand the incidence of Vulvovaginal Candidiasis (VVC) during pregnancy, the vertical transmission of mother and baby and the incidence of neonatal infection. Methods A total of 252 pregnant women undergoing prenatal check-up and childbirth at Beijing Maternity Hospital from 2002 to 2003 underwent vaginal fungal smear, culture and identification of strains. Their newborn infants were given skin fungal culture and strain identification. . Results 252 cases of vaginal fungal smear and / or culture positive 109 cases, the positive rate of 43.25%. The incidence of VVC during pregnancy was 19.05% (48/252). 109 cases of positive patients, cesarean section and vaginal delivery children skin fungi carrier rates were 20.76% (11/53) and 35.71% (20/56), P> 0.05; during pregnancy VVC group and fungal-borne neonatal skin fungi The carrying rates were 16.67% (8/48) and 37.71% (23/61) respectively, P <0.05. The neonates in the treatment group had no fungi to carry. The fungal carrying rate in the untreated group was 50.82% (31/61). Among 252 newborn infants, 31 cases were fungal (+), the fungal carrying rate was 12.30%; neonate dermatitis and thrush were 12.90% (4/31) and 6.45% (2 / 31); P <0.05 compared with neonatal fungal culture (-) [3.62% (8/221) and 0%]. Among 109 cases of vaginal fungal smear and / or culture, the incidence of neonatal omphalitis, diaper dermatitis and thrush in cesarean section group were 3.77% (2/53), 15.09% (8/53) and 1.87 % (1/53)] were not statistically significant (P> 0.05) compared with vaginal delivery group [1.79% (1/56), 7.14% (4/56) and 1.79% (1/56) respectively] The incidence of neonatal omphalitis, diaper dermatitis and thrush in the untreated group was positive during pregnancy
