Revalidation of the History of Chinese Ancient Brass Casting Money - Discussing with Mike Cowell, etc. Dai Zhiqiang, Zhou Weirong In recent years, the British Museum’s Michael Cowell, Joel Acropolis, Sheridan Bowman Made a comparatively systematic study on the composition, fabrication and processing technology of ancient Chinese bronze coins, and put forward some unique opinions especially on the study of ancient Chinese brass money-casting history. Chinese scholars attach great importance to their opinions, but also put forward some different opinions. While publishing the articles of Dai Zhiqiang and Zhou Weirong, this magazine also appends the excerpts of British scholars ’essays for readers’ reference. In 1991, at the 11th International Conference of Numismatic Assemblies held in Brussels, Belgium, we published a paper entitled “Studies on the composition of the past dynasties copper derivatives in China”. ① According to the historical documents and relevant physical analysis data, The history of using brass to cast money in ancient China leads to two conclusions: (1) Since the Jiajing years (1522 ~ 1566) in the Ming Dynasty, China used brass for casting money; in the past, the copper coins basically were bronze coins. (B) In the early period of brass casting money, that is, Jiajing and Wanli years (1522-1619) had been using celnentation brass, Copper, the spelled brass, began to be used for casting money
