Japan is a country with rather scarce resources and its vast majority rely on imports. The supply of rare metals is even more difficult. As a result, the country has set its sights on rare metals hidden in seawater, cell phone batteries and electronic components. According to the definition of Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Industry, there are 31 kinds of rare metals including indium, cobalt and the like used in the batteries of liquid crystal displays, mobile phones and computers. Japan is an electronic power. If we estimate the amount of rare metals contained in these e-waste, Japan is really a resource-rich country from another perspective.
