In dealing with his second wife, Agnes Burton, O’Neill showed anger beyond imagination. In dealing with the relationship between man and artist, he clearly placed people under the artist. Agnies and O’Neill’s relationship between the inequality, inequality are derived from this. In building his own image as an artist, O’Neill over-ridden this image, leading to an infinite expansion of the field of art and a fierce conflict with reality until the conflict is irreconcilable and outbreaks of astonishing anger. Agnes struggled to be able to stand upright with O’Neill; O’Neill defied her writing and personality. This is a typical example of the clash between different aesthetic values and social values in an important period in cultural history.
