中西戏剧交流史上,在众多西方剧作家中最值得回味和思考的应当是布莱希特。易卜生对中国话剧的影响是巨大深远的,促进了中国话剧的建立和现实主义主流的形成。但“易卜生现象”只是单向影响,而“布莱希特现象”才是双向交流。中西戏剧交流史是中西两种戏剧因素不断碰撞、在碰撞中不断融合的历史。二十世纪二、三十年代在中西戏剧大碰撞中,布氏将中国戏曲的“叙述性”因素引入西方戏剧,创建了叙述体戏剧;五十年代末、特别是改革开放以来,在中西戏剧的再次碰撞中,中国戏剧吸收布氏的戏剧因素,更新和发展
