Before the United States launched the Iraq war on March 20, 2003, the U-2 reconnaissance aircraft was dispatched by the United Nations Monitoring Commission to Iraq to investigate whether there was any weapons of mass destruction. In the 1960s, U-2 aircraft had flown into secret Soviet airspace and were shot down by Soviet missiles. Although this matter has passed more than 40 years, there are many relevant reports at home and abroad, but most of them are commented from the perspective of a third party or from the perspective of the secret agent. Bowers, the pilot of the U-2 aircraft that was shot down by the Soviet Union at the time, wrote a memoir, which is the most informative first-hand information. This article is an excerpt from the book, with an eager reader on the U-2 incident.
