This paper examines the Non Tariff Barriers(NTB’s) faced by Ugandan Coffee exports to China.A key objective of China ’s extension of Special Preferential Tariff Treatment(SPTT) to African Countries including Uganda was to improve bilateral trade relations by reducing the Technical Barriers to trade between the two countries.Coffee is one of the products set to benefit from the SPTT.This paper establishes that several NTB’s continue to exist despite efforts on paper to ease the trade relations. These have hampered the growth of coffee trade and include sanitary and psytosanitary measures, cumbersome custom documentation formalities, testing and certification procedures.
