新沂市地处苏北平原,早在60年代就享有“全国平原农田林网化第一故乡”的美誉。改革开放以来,他们从实际出发,围绕制度化、良种化、立体化、规范化、科技化的目标,走出了平原林业发展的新路子。从1979年到1994年的10多年间,新沂市曾六次受到省政府的嘉奖,五次被国家绿委和林业部授予“全国平原绿化先进单位”的光荣称号。目前全市林网面积已达120万亩,占可建林网耕地面积的95％,林带总长为1万公里,成片造林18万亩,占宜林面积的96％,林木覆盖率22％,木材蓄积量达120万立方米,干鲜果年产量2.5万吨,蚕茧产量5万担。全市板栗、柳编、泡桐、蚕茧等
