Objective To explore the relationship between family environment, neuroticism, loneliness and college students’ mental health status. Methods A total of 3045 undergraduates were surveyed using FES, EPQ, UCLA and UPI. Data analysis using SPSS 19.0. The positive family environment factor indicated the better psychological health status of individuals (r = -0.343, -0.324, -0.376, -0.325, P <0.01). The negative family environment factors indicated the poor mental health of individuals (r = 0.336; P <0.01). Neuroticism plays an intermediary role in the relationship between family environment and loneliness. Loneliness plays an intermediary role in the relationship between neuroticism and mental health of college students. 3 family environment through the neurotic - loneliness intermediary chain of mental health of students have a indirect effect. Conclusion Family environment can not only directly affect the mental health of college students, but also affect the mental health status of college students indirectly through the intermediary chain of neuroticism - loneliness.
