Liver fibrosis is a repair reaction of chronic hepatic injury. The essence of it is the imbalance between the synthesis and degradation of extracellular matrix (ECM) of type I and type III collagen, pathological diseases that are formed by excessive deposition in the liver . Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and their inhibitors (TIMPs) are the major enzymes regulating ECM degradation. TIMP-1 is one of the only tissue inhibitors of matrix metalloproteinase (TIMP-1) in the liver and is considered as an important factor in the development of liver fibrosis.
