我国民族教育和过去相比,已经有了很大的发展和变化。民族地区办教育的各种条件、设施(包括电教设备),都得到了改善、充实和加强。从事各级学校教育工作的少数民族专任教师已达62万多人。仅1986年用20多种民族文字编译出版的中小学教材的教学用书就达1670种、17093册。所有这些,都为进一步发展民族教育奠定了一定的基础。但是,由于历史和自然条件的原因,目前民族教育在数量、质量、发展规模、教育结构、教育内容等方面,与民族地区社会主义建设的实际需要仍有很大的距离,存在着一些不容忽视的问题。在有些地区,不但发展落后于内地,而且还有继续拉大差距的趋势。
