Arc welding is a generally accepted method of providing permanent connections between fibers. In this area, earlier work provided a process for the recovery of short segment multimode fibers and long distance lines containing low loss, high strength joints that, viewed from the geometry of the optical fiber and coating, were difficult to obtain from Unfiberized fiber in the distinction. With the rapid popularization of large-length single-mode optical fibers, the optical fiber fusion process including single-mode optical fibers must be further studied. This article will report on the bandwidth of the multimode fiber that has been spliced at the fab and the cable test results. In addition, the newest fusion methods for both multimode and singlemode fibers will be discussed as well as the optical, mechanical, and environmental test results for fused singlemode fibers.
