金边虎皮兰是龙舌科虎尾兰属,是60多种虎皮兰中观赏价值较高的一种,在热带、亚热带均有分布。金边虎皮兰是一种能净化室内环境的观叶植物。美国宇航局的科学家们研究发现,金边虎皮兰在吸收二氧化碳的同时能释放出氧气,使室内空气中的负氧离子浓度增加。当室内有电视机或电脑启动的时候,对人体非常有益的负氧离子会迅速减少,而金边虎皮兰的肉质茎上的气孔白天关闭,晚上打开,释放负氧离子。在15平方米的室内,摆放2～3盆金边虎皮兰,能吸收室内80%以上的有害气体。
