当代社会知识极大丰富,过去实施的分科课程的缺陷也日益凸显,如何改革中小学课程成为我国当前基础教育改革的核心问题。美国中小学社会科课程从其产生至今不断变化,特别是1994年颁布的全美社会科课程标准更是值得分析。该课程标准首先明确了社会科课程的总目标并且以“十大主题”贯穿中小学各教育阶段,课程具体目标及内容不仅做到了各教育阶段有机衔接还兼顾了不同阶段的层次性。美国社会科课程一体化过程中的成功经验对我国正在进行的基础教育课程改革具有借鉴意义。
