鱼在中华民俗中的吉祥意义，可从上古历史文化背景着眼来进行考察：初民的谋食方式及对司水鱼神的崇拜使鱼成了丰收富裕的象征；而由水生殖信仰演化来的鱼生殖信仰及鱼本身繁殖力强的特性，使“鱼”在传统文化中染上生殖色彩，成为婚姻、爱情的象征物或性爱隐语。
The auspicious meaning of fish in the Chinese folklore can be investigated from the perspective of the ancient history and culture: the ways of seeking food and the adoration of the god of the waters make the fish a symbol of prosperity and richness; and the evolution from the aquatic belief Fish reproductive beliefs and the fish itself reproductive power of the characteristics of the “fish” in the traditional culture infected with reproductive color, become marriage, a symbol of love or sex idiots.
