There seems to be no end to our demand for electricity and the demand is expected to double over the next 40 years. Such a huge power demand, resulting in electricity production and transportation have a negative impact on the environment. In the newly added power generation, from remote areas of renewable resources share of generating more and more. ABB has been working on the development of a new HVDCLight system since the mid-1990s to provide a new power transmission technology that overcomes some of the inherent shortcomings of existing power transmission systems. The HVDCLight system uses rugged, easy-to-install aggregate cables that enable long-haul DC transmission over land. Similarly, the use of submarine cables can also be achieved across the sea power transmission. HVDCLight converters enhance the performance of the transmission network and improve black-start capability.
