Tyler: Is there any chance that you’ll 1)relinquish the 2)reigns to the desktop tonight?
Caroline: Sorry honey, but I’ve gotta get these promotions out. Spring Festival is right around the corner, and there’re 3)truckloads of potential money to be made.
Tyler: But you know what they say about all work and no play…
Caroline: I don’t have time to 4)bicker like school-kids. Can’t you see I’m up against it here?
Tyler: Up against what?
Caroline: What else? I’m talking about the most pressure packed week of my life here.
Tyler: How so?
Caroline: Well, to start, I’ll be chatting with hundreds, even thousands of dissatisfied customers and 5)stingy sales representatives. Then there’s this digital stack of discount email 6)blasts that need to be sent out and a handful of promotional 7)banner designs that need 8)polishing.
Tyler: ①Geez Louise! You’ve got a lot on your plate.
Caroline: You don’t know the half of it. I’ve still got a ton of recommendations to write, which need to be approved by the respective owners. And then they’ll send me the links that need to be posted online.
Tyler: Posted where online? The Internet is a pretty big place. How do you know the right places to post stuff?
Caroline: The idea is to go where the most clicks are, where Internet traffic is at its busiest, like FAQ forums, microblogs and message boards.
Tyler: ②Don’t take this the wrong way, but maybe quitting that 9)cushy copywriting job wasn’t the most 10)prudent decision on your part.
Caroline: I can’t believe you’d say that, especially now, when I need your support most of all.
Tyler: I’m trying to be sweety. But I just don’t see the upside in being a Taobao seller.
Caroline: Well then, you must be blind. If I really put the petal to the metal this week, I could earn more in the next seven days than I did in the past two years at that so-called“cushy” advertising job!
Tyler: Woah! Are you serious?
Caroline: Serious as a heart attack.
Every time someone clicks on one of the links I post or send out, I get a 11)commission that’s anywhere from 1.5% to 50% of the product price, depending on who the client is. Tyler: Holy smokes! I wanna work from home too! Fine. I’m sorry. I’ll leave you to your work. Just remember to come up for air once in a while, OK?
Caroline: I’ve already scheduled myself a break for two hours from now.
Tyler: You’re really loving this “being your own boss” thing, aren’t you?
Caroline: Or, perhaps, I was just getting tired of bossing you around all the time.
Tyler: And some things never change…
