Israel is the world’s major exporter of cut flowers, with exports of ornamental plants reaching a total value of 250 million U.S. dollars each year. At the beginning of its flower industry development, it mainly produces and exports traditional cut flowers such as carnation, rose and gladiolus. With the declining market share of traditional flowers in the international market and the increasing market share of new varieties, up to now, the new Israeli cut flowers account for 60% of the export cut flowers. “New Flower” has become a major part of Israel’s export of flowers. Most of the “new flowers” have not been commercially produced more than 10 years ago and are hard to find in recently published flower cultivation textbooks.
