The Floss Creek Mill and Awakening are the classic works of 19th-century feminine literature. George Eliot and Kate Chopin respectively express the awakening women’s pursuit and desire for freedom and equality in the novel, which reveals the existence of the female group under the capitalist patriarchy. The two heroines, Maggie and Edna, both awake women, end up in tragedy. From the perspective of socialist feminism, we can see that the gender division of labor imprisons them in the family, and the difficult success of family rights struggle and the collective oppression of women are doomed to their tragedy. Their tragic ending reveals the interaction between capitalism and traditional patriarchy on the fate of women and shows that only by changing the social and traditional gender perspective can the true destiny of women be changed.
