一新时期开始,不同剧种面临严峻形势:一是剧种剧团数量锐减。在全国三百多个剧种中,有艺术团体的剧种仅二百多种,流传于民间的剧种也处境艰难。二是在粉碎“四人帮”后,传统剧目恢复上演时的美好日子已经被“戏曲危机”的现实所替代,剧团从坐等观众转为面临寻找观众、市场萎缩的艰难境地。三是京剧、昆剧、川剧、秦腔等古老剧种都面临老艺术家年事已高,演员队伍青黄不接的状况。四是艺术表演团体被旧体制束缚,如何积极而慎重地推进改革,加快艺术革新步伐
