Introduction The method of rock cutting by mechanical cutters is still an important method in underground excavation. The development of production will inevitably require continuous innovation of rock-cutter cutting tools, of which the role of theory in rock breaking research cannot be overlooked. Currently, in all kinds of mechanical rock-breaking methods, the full-face rock tunnel boring machine can be considered as a large-scale rock-breaking equipment, which provides favorable conditions for the experiments and research of our rock-breaking theory. The process of rock chipping with wedge cutters and its theory was first proposed by Simon and other authors (1954) and later illustrated by Hartmon (1959). Afterwards, various interpretations of the rock breaking mechanism by various families are the differences in the interpretation of the state of stress of the rock when it breaks. Such as Poul and Sekai
